Academy of Christian Editors
What Matters Most
Core Values
As editors whose imaginations and intellects are shaped by a Christian worldview, we strive to express truth, beauty, and goodness in all our relationships and in all our editorial tasks. As we facilitate the expression of stories and ideas that are in step with the mission of God, we aspire to honor the following values:
CHRIST
We value our restored relationship with God through the death and resurrection of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Old and New Testaments. We desire to demonstrate the fruit of God’s grace in our personal lives, in all our relationships, and in the material we acquire and edit, applying ourselves to the work God has prepared for us to do.
Romans 8:1,2; Ephesians 2:8–10; Colossians 1:21,22
CREATIVITY
We value the biblical truths that all people are created in the image of God and that we are in turn called to be cocreators with God. We are committed to live out that calling within the vocation of publishing, pledging ourselves to excellence, originality, and lifelong discovery in all our professional endeavors.
Genesis 1:27 and 2:15,19; Isaiah 65:17; James 1:18
COLLEGIALITY
We value camaraderie and relate to one another from the base of community. We enjoy the company of likeminded “word people” and encourage each other, in the context of confidentiality, in our professional and personal lives.
Proverbs 27:17; Philippians 2:1–4; Hebrews 10:24,25
CRAFT
We value excellence of communication with both publishing partners and readers. We strive to use words and methods that are clear, compelling, responsible, and honorable, fully cognizant of their power to build up or tear down, to lead toward truth or away from it.
Psalm 19:14; Colossians 3:23,24; James 3:9,10
CONTINUITY
We value the next generation of Christian editors and are committed to coming alongside them with training, resources, and support.
1 Thessalonians 5:11; 2 Timothy 4:2
What We Believe
Nicene Creed
We believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of Very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead, whose kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And we believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
